EUR/USD
If traders choose to try and step in front of the short term gains being made by the EUR they were likely taken to the buzz saw on Monday. The EUR climbed to short terms highs again and it did this as news from Greece continues to grow. Bondholders are now apparently being pressured to accept concessions regarding the Greek debt that they hold. Today PMI data will come from Germany and France via the Manufacturing and Services sectors. The E.U. has won recent battles within their confidence game as they try to calm investor fears. In the past week risk takers have seen the EUR gain, but how long can that continue?
Gold
Gold maintained it higher ranges on Monday. As of this morning the precious metal stands around 1677.00 USD per ounce. Gold taken under the context of a USD correlation has shown that it has picked up steam with recent declines in the Greenback. Gold needs to be watched carefully because cautious sentiment has not vanished and it remains a speculative play in what could become volatile markets.
Oil
Crude Oil raised in value on Monday. Global economic conditions remain challenging at best via most forecasts and demand is being questioned. However, political consideration continues to create a foundation for the commodity. The E.U. has taken another step towards implementing an embargo on Iran which could go into effect this spring. Crude Oil is likely to remain in known ranges and near highs.
S&P, NASDAQ, DOW
Wall Street turned in another rather lackluster day of trading across the major indexes. Volumes in the equities markets remains very light. The U.S. will release the Richmond Manufacturing Index today, but this is a rather unimportant report for most investors. Looming on the horizon is tomorrow’s FOMC Statement and the press conference that will be held by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke. Core Durable Goods data will come on Thursday. Equities have taken on a consolidated mode and investors appear to be waiting for the next shoe to drop
