EUR/USD

The EUR has found itself under pressure once again, this time per a downgrade from the S&P ratings service. France was the major lynchpin included in the new downgrade over the weekend and this has set off fast paced announcements via government officials across Europe as they try to cope with this latest round of setbacks in their faltering ‘confidence game’. There will not be a great deal of data from Europe today, but the E.U. will have plenty on its plate to deal with considering the downgrades and the impact that they will have on their Sovereign Debt market. Tomorrow the German ZEW Economic Sentiment report is on the calendar.

Gold

Gold continues to hammer out a consolidated range even in the wake of investors parking their money into the USD. The precious metal may find itself in a challenging mode for traders who are used to looking at Gold via an inverse correlation with the USD. Gold might find backing even with a strong Greenback if investors continue to question the long term health of the EUR.

Oil

Crude Oil traded slightly lower on Friday as it started to succumb to headwinds regarding outlooks about the global economy. Although the Iranian political escapades have certainly not vanished, for a day pessimism about pure economics created more pressure than demand from a speculative front which is looking at a fluid dynamic via geopolitics.

S&P, NASDAQ, DOW

Wall Street traded downwards on Friday across the three major indexes. Trade Balance numbers were negative along with PPI Input data before going into the weekend. The rather poor results from the economic front in the States and the combination of rather lackluster corporate outlook weighed on short term sentiment. The news from Europe over the weekend regarding the downgrades will create yet another looking glass for investors who try to take long term perspectives. The U.S. will be quiet with data today, but tomorrow the Empire State Manufacturing Index reading will be published
